At last night’s meeting, it was announced that the Rev. Dr. Dan Moseley will be our interim pastor. Dan retired from CTS a short while ago where he was professor of practical parish ministry. He served as pastor of Disciples of Christ congregations for 30 years and is the author of three books. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt Divinity School.

On Monday, we observe the birthday of Martin Luther King. Its significance is frequently overlooked these days. By way of remembering, here are a few quotes from Dr. King:

“Non-violence means avoiding not only external violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, you refuse to hate him.”

“We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

Marie Siroky will have her Ecclesiastical Exam this Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at Friedens UICC on the south side. Representatives from our Southeast Association of the UCC gather to hear her present a paper, question her and then vote on her fitness for ordination. I’m sure it will go well.

It is gratifying for me that as I retire, she will be one of those comprising a new generation of clergy. As you know I announced my retirement last Sunday and my last day will be Feb. 19.

Pastor's Announcement

Greetings. May the New Year bring many blessings and joys to you.

For more than 15 years, I have been fortunate enough to serve as your pastor. These years have been years of great blessing for me and I am ever so grateful that my life’s journey took me to this wonderful church. However, all things must come to an end.

This morning at the end of our worship, I announced to the church my retirement.  My last Sunday will be Feb. 19.

E-mail Epistle for December 29, 2011

Greetings from First Congregational United Church of Christ.

What a wonderful Christmas we had here at FCC. Both services went well on Christmas Eve. Our Sunday morning worship was small (47 people) but a true family gathering that reminded us of what the day is really all about.

We will have a single worship service at 10:30 this Sunday.

E-mail Epistle for December 22, 2011

“Tranquilo” is a Spanish word that is used with a multiplicity of meanings. The Spanish English dictionary translates it with such words as quiet, peaceful, relaxed, calm, untroubled. It may be used in the same sense as when young people say “Chill” or to describe a situation where not a single worry is to be found. On this day, three days before Christmas, “tranquilo’ may be a rare commodity. Nevertheless, it is my Christmas wish for you.

This is the fourth and final Sunday in Advent. Our time of expectation and waiting draws to a close. May the waiting be meaningful.
