Instructions for Sound Engineer

Reminder instructions for running the New Creation sound system. I say "reminder instructions" because the target audience is not a complete neophyte, but someone who only runs the system once every several weeks. Please feel free to edit as much as needed. NB: The pre-amp switch in the room to the right of the stage is to be turned ON LAST and OFF FIRST. Anything else puts stress on the equipment. So -- do not turn it on until you are otherwise all set up; turn it off first before you start closing down.

1. After opening the sound system case, plug the power strip into the wall, but do NOT turn on any switches.

2. Plug in main sound cords -- the one with red tape on it goes near the top into the slot that has red tape on it; the yellow goes down near the bottom of the case to the left, the green to the bottom to the right.

3. Plug the silver AUX cords into the slots marked SEND AUX 1 and SEND AUX 2.

4. If using the wired mikes, plug the black #7 into slot #7 and black #8 into slot #8

5. If using the stage mikes, plug the white #9 into slot #9 and the white #4 into any available slot (may have to switch plugs during the service).

6. If using sound from the computer, plug the Direct box small cord into the HEADPHONE slot on the computer (NOT the microphone slot). Plug the larger cord into slot #4 on the system.

7. Take out the wireless mikes and set them up. The batteries are rechargeable double A's and usually good for several services, but not if let on all week, etc. Green always goes to David (or other piano player); others are for choir, moving around the congregation, etc. Right not, only the Blue and Green handhelds work, due to power cord issues that should be resolved soon. The light blue lapel mike goes to Dick, the pink to the other officiator (usually Janice). Make sure the mike points to the mouth, not away, and is placed high enough to give the system control of volume. The handhelds in particular have mutliple switches to turn on -- one inside, one outside. Make sure inside is on, and turn on outside just before use.

8. The piano is plugged from the "LEFT MONO" slot on the piano to the #1 LINE slot (NOT the #1 I/O) on the system board in the stage right corner of the room. Any other instrument -- Seth's guitar, for instance, is plugged into #2 LINE slot.

9. The monitor (speaker for band's use) requires the blue plug from the cable that comes from the bottom of the box at stage right; not the cable that has white tape and comes out of the side of the box.

10. Set the red slider at #0; normally the lapel and handheld mikes will run at about -5; the stage mikes need to be +5 or so, but closely watched for feedback. You also have to watch if any of the mikes get ahead of the big speakers; feedback can start really quickly.

11. The Aux 1 monitor settings are usually good; occasionally David needs a bit more or a bit less volume, which is controlled by the knob at the end of the row, NOT the sliders. In general, the PRE buttons are down, which means the sliders do NOT control volume through the monitor. To control monitor volume (only rarely needed, use the knobs).

12. There is an AUX 2 monitor used occasionally; most of the same features apply -- that is, everything is pre-set, and only rarely will a slight volume adjustment be needed.

13. Turn on the system after all the cords are plugged in; THEN turn on the PRE-AMP in the room stage right.

14. Closing down just reverses the sets, with several cautions -- #1 turn OFF the PRE-AMP first; then turn off the system. Make sure all the mikes are turned on (both inside and outside switches on the handhelds).
